School is important for cognitive, creative and social development of children. So is the School Sanitation and Hygiene Education, necessary for the safe, secure and healthy environment for children to learn better and face the challenges of future life particularly in a world where a child dies every 15 seconds from diseases associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene.
REEDS is involved in Hygiene education campaigns 'Promoting the usage of toilets among schoolchildren, creating awareness on hand washing at right times and sharing tasks among School Children'. Since 2005, under this campaign, REEDS covered over 300,000 school children at 7000+ schools in 8 districts of Andhra Pradesh. UNICEF, Andhra Pradesh State Water and Sanitation Mission and respective District Water and Sanitation Committees have sponsored these campaigns.
REEDS, in this regard, have attained the status of 'Organization which has carried such campaign in highest number of schools'.
REEDS in carrying these campaigns adopts the strategy that is aimed to promote sanitation and hygiene in and through schools to bring about behavioral change that will have lasting impact in the proven route of Children – Family – Community.
