It is always a pleasure to share the happenings in REEDS with all those who stand by us and whose well wishes propel our activities of rural empowerment. During the interlude since my last note, we have had purposeful achievements at REEDS and there were challenges too. I am happy to provide a succinct on few of our recent endeavours - Skills2015 International Conference and Sanitation Helpline here.

It was indeed heartening to a modest organization like ours, for able to organize an event like SKILLS2015 International Conference and spur the cause of sanitation skills development in scale among relevant stake-holders. It was held on 19-20 November 2015 in Hyderabad. We at REEDS trust that the outcomes of the initiative add a wing to the ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission). Sanitation Helpline pilot project which was implemented with the support of UNICEF and Guntur District Administration is one of our highly transformative initiatives. In an environment where over half the population possess mobile phones but only around a third of the population have access to proper sanitation; and particularly where the rural populations finds it difficult to access government authorities, this helpline demonstrated as an effective approach to mobilize beneficiaries in realizing Clean India Mission targets.

Regrettable part of last year for REEDS was the demise of three legendary mentors and inspirers of our organizational vision. It was a misfortune that we lost Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam who has been the hero of our generation; Mr. G Venkatswamy one of the longest served Indian parliamentarians; and Dr R P Gupta, a compassionate cardiothoracic surgeon, all of whom touched many lives and inspired many. We aim to make their reflections true as our sincere tributes to the inspiring visionaries. Precepts of Mr. Venkatswamy and Dr. R P Gupta and especially Dr. Kalam’s saying ‘My dream is to see a billion smiles on billion faces’ always keeps us spur on to work harder to achieve our goals.
